Set up with the help of national and European teaching structures, this ensemble made up of musicians in training was created in 2019 to put the spotlight back on the repertoires of the Orchestre National de Jazz, with the ambition of enhancing the musical wealth produced for nearly 40 years by this unique institution and its variations; passing it on to young artists and introducing it to new audiences. Each season, the orchestra is entrusted to a former ONJ director, renews its cast and, in partnership with local structures, sets up in a different region for a series of residencies and concerts. Alongside their experience in a large ensemble, its members benefit from a mentoring program to help them find employment.
From 2025 onwards, the orchestra will diversify its collaborations, opening up its direction to other personalities who have played in the ONJ, or composed for it throughout its history, in order to revive one of their repertoires.
A veritable breeding ground for talent, the ONJ Youth Orchestra is also a formidable pool for recruiting ONJ soloists. Since its creation, some ten musicians have become full members of the orchestra, or have been invited to perform on its programs.
